The Sabi Sands was registered as a private game reserve in 1962 and is is undoubtedly the most exclusive private game reserve in South Africa. Comprised of land owned by various individuals including Boyd Varty, eco tourism and photographic safaris within the Sabi Sands began as hunting became severely curtailed. The 65,000-hectare Sabi Sands Game Reserve is located on the south-western corner of the Kruger National Park. There are no restricting fences between the Kruger Park and Sabi Sands Reserve and the wildlife roams freely between the two game reserves.
Through the course of the past 4 decades, the land in the Sabi Sands has become increasingly valuable as the conservation of wildlife has led to some of the best predator viewing in the world. Renowned for the relaxed nature of the leopards, the Sabi Sands game reserve is also incredibly densely populated with lions, hyenas, rhino and large herds of African Elephant and Buffalo. The wildlife experience in the Sabi Sands is unlike any other and a cut above most reserves in Africa.
