Discover the Kalahari
The Kalahari Desert is a truly spectacular and serene place. It extends for 900,000 square kilometres and covers much of Botswana and parts of Namibia and South Africa. The name Kalahari is derived from the Tswana word “Kgala”, meaning the great thirst, or “Kgalagadi”, meaning the waterless place.
The southern Kalahari receives more rain than the central Kalahari, so you can expect to see a large diversity of life. Here you can see some of South Africa’s rarest and most extraordinary wildlife, including desert-adapted black rhino, black-maned lions, meerkats and cheetah. Significant populations of rare antelope such as roan, sable and tsessebe can also be found in the Kalahari. Other sightings may include the elusive aardvark, aardwolf, caracal, pangolin and porcupine.
The Kalahari always promises things you can never see elsewhere. And each month reveals sights and sounds different to the last. We recommend visiting Tswalu Private Game Reserve for a truly incredible experience.
We’ve featured a limited selection of destinations in our Tours, but we can help you plan a holiday to any southern and eastern African destination, tailored to your budget, style and needs.
