Background
Our Dream at Future Nature & Bush Schools is to help young people from diverse backgrounds to gain a greater understanding of the natural world and its inhabitants and to ignite within them a passion and commitment to preserve and protect their environment. One of our aims to help to promote the transformation that is currently taking place in South Africa. Using the bush as the platform and by building individual’s self-esteem during an added-value, small group teaching intervention we hope to do our part in addressing the imbalances and disparities of the past.
Over the past three years and with the support of sponsors, Future Nature has put 400 rural children through a Bushschool Programme. A further 500 have participated in workshops held at various Mpumalanga schools.
While participating in a Future Nature Bushschool Programme children are given an opportunity, in an exciting but safe environment to learn by experience, experimenting and discovery. While the children acquire bush and conservation knowledge they also begin to gain a better understanding of themselves as they embark on the important and life long discovery of self. In a world when environmental literacy is paramount it is we believe vital for these youngsters to understand their world around them and the impact that they have on that world.
Benefits
The Benefits of the Programmes are many, both direct and indirect. Mental, Physical, emotional and spiritual.
With donor’s sponsorship:
- Children are given the opportunity to participate in a Bushschool Programme. This is an intervention that introduces these children to the Bush and instills in them a love for their planet and environment as well as an understanding of group work, of themselves and of their abilities.
- The Programme also fosters in them a love for and an understanding of the importance of their natural environment and its importance as a tourist attraction which is vital to the survival of South Africa as a whole. Children become aware of their individual role in protecting and ensuring the future of the country’s natural environment.
- Children are given an introduction to tourism and land management and its importance as an industry and the role it plays in South Africa including the possibilities that it holds for their own future employment.
- All donors receive a full report back on the specific Programme that you sponsored. Including photographs, drawings and letters from the children. These can be used for any social responsibility marketing or articles that you require.
